Type
Industrial Analytics

An industrial analytics platform in the Oil & Gas sector. The client is under NDA, so specifics stay high-level — but the work sat at the heart of the platform-modernization effort: reactive migrations, faster service startups, high-throughput streaming, and the production ownership that keeps a distributed system dependable.

What I owned

  • Served as Lead Software Engineer, providing technical direction for backend initiatives and mentoring across the engineering teams.
  • Drove the migration of 25+ Java repositories from blocking JDBC to reactive R2DBC.
  • Led notification-platform modernization, coordinating Kafka schema evolution and migrating Akka events without disrupting business operations.
  • Spearheaded the move from Bitnami Kafka to Strimzi and from Confluent Schema Registry to Apicurio — cutting broker startup time from ~6 minutes to ~2 minutes.
  • Led migration of thousands of graph schemas from a legacy REST-based architecture to TimescaleDB, enabling near real-time updates.
  • Raised automated test coverage from ~20% to ~90% across key services and introduced testing and code-quality standards.
  • Resolved complex production incidents across Akka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Kafka and reactive systems, owning reliability for 15+ microservices.
  • Operated a distributed, event-driven platform processing millions of events from thousands of sensors and 500+ GB of Kafka data monthly.
